Fire Alarm Design

I design all types of fire detection and alarm (FD&A) systems. I'm an experienced fire alarm installer and commissioning engineer not just a designer, so I have expert knowledge of all types, brands and technologies of fire system. I also have an in-depth knowledge of BS5839-1:2017, PD6531:2018, BS5839-6:2019+A1:2020, as well as design and advanced design qualifications from both the FIA and IFEDA. I operate in the real world - and I specialise in designing practical solutions that are affordable, easy to install and use, yet still fully meet the required specifications.

Video Fire Detection Design

I am an experienced designer of video fire detection systems, working closely with manufacturers as technology and products evolve in this exciting and rapidly developing sector. Video fire detection is no longer just a niche product and is quickly becoming the detection methodology of choice in several industries, notably waste/recycling. I can help specify and design video fire detection systems to both BS5839-1:2017 and also to meet Environment Agency Fire Prevention Plan (FPP) guidance.

Emergency Lighting Design

I design emergency lighting systems for all types of premises, working to BS5266-1:2016, BSEN1838:2013, BS7671:2018+A1:2020, and Approved Document B. As well as common self-contained emergency lighting I also provide designs for DALI, self-testing, intelligent, central battery, and inverter based emergency lighting and backup lighting systems. I believe that when designing emergency lighting it is essential to have a detailed understanding of the different technologies and how they operate, as well as of electrical regulations and conventions.

Portable Extinguisher Design

I work closely with a BAFE accredited partner to design portable fire extinguisher layouts for all types of buildings in accordance with BS 5306-8:2012.

Dry Riser Design

I design dry rising fire main systems for new and retro-fitting applications to BS9990:2015, BS9999 and Approved Document B.

Kitchen Suppression Design

I work with a number of specialist partners to specify and design a range of automatic kitchen suppression systems for commercial kitchens.
